Abstract
This study investigated a relationship between adolescents' mental health and their drawings on the Bridge Drawing Test. The study participants were 267 first or second year students at high schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province. The instruments for this study included a mental health scale and Bridge Drawing Test. 15 indicators to analyze the bridge drawings were selected based on the studies of Hays and Lyon (1981), Huh and Ju (2010). Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentage, and cross-tabulation. The results were as follows. First, the study found that 40% of the adolescents were at high risk of depression and anxiety. Second, significant differences were found in the indicators: the drawer's position, bridge strength, formal combination, and existence of danger in the drawing, and the contents of the drawing story. Many of high risk group positioned themselves at the beginning sides of the bridge. Their bridges appeared weak. Situations described in the drawings were threatening. In addition, their accounts of the situations were largely negative. These findings supported the potential of Bridge Drawing Test as a measuring instrument of adolescents' mental health.
